Hacked

I was  hacked a few months back!
My dear SIL phoned to say that I had better change my passwords
because she just received an email stating that I was in England
and needed money badly.
This email went out to my entire contact list!!
I was able to log into my email account and right
before my eyes I could see my emails being deleted!
Hubby and I just sat there stunned that this
could be happening.
The hacker was deleting the emails
that were coming back to me with people responding
to the hacker's email.
I immediately tried to change my password,
but I was too late - he/she had already changed it!
I felt totally violated, robbed and very vulnerable.
I felt that there was nothing that I could do.
I then went to my Facebook account and sent out
a blast post telling my friends that I was hacked
and to not respond to this.
At that point the hacker took over
my fb account or fb shut it down
Loving friends and family
did respond to my hacker and the hacker
had the nerve to plead and beg for money!!
I phoned my internet provider several times
with no success (they could not help me regain my account back!)
They told me that since my email was msn they could not help....
GRRR.... I was upset.
I then emailed and phoned Microsoft. After several attempts
I finally spoke with someone who gave me an email
to microsoft escalation team.
They replied back to me a few days later
and helped me regain my account back!
I feel like I hacked the hacker!
I was pretty pleased at that point!!
In the meantime I emailed FB and they
as well were able to get me signed back into my account.
Through FB I learned that my hacker was from Nigeria!

Lessons Learned
Do not have your pc remember your username or your password!
(this makes it easier for the hacker)
Change your password at least every 3 months!
(this is a pain but worth it)
Make your password HARD!
Use capitols, lowercase, symbols, numbers and have it make no sense!
Have two email accounts with different passwords
(this is in case you are hacked and need an alternate email to be contacted at
AND you will have a back up of your contact list!
Create a different password for your FB acct

Do you know why hackers hack?
Because they CAN!
They make a ton of money doing this
Can you believe that people really send
them money?!

I have a friend that works at WalMart and they
see people come in all the time purchasing
a wire transfer for the purpose of
helping out a stranded friend.
WalMart tries to warn as many as possible
but some do get by.

Just in case here are is what I used:
MSN escalation  1800-386-5550
sub.support.msn.com
Microsoft  1 800-936-5700

Take precautions and be safe!!
